Hotpoint Electric Heating Company (or simply Hotpoint) is a globally recognized American and European manufacturer of household appliances. The brand’s product range includes washing machines, dishwashers, refrigerators, cookers, ovens, and more.

In the EMEA and Asia-Pacific regions, the brand is owned by Whirlpool.

Hotpoint was founded in 1911 in Ontario, California, by American inventor Earl Richardson (1871–1934). The name “Hotpoint” comes from one of Richardson’s inventions — the first electric iron, in which the heating element was placed in the tip (the “hot point”) rather than in the center.

In the early 1950s, most of Hotpoint’s production was moved to Louisville, Kentucky, where it remains to this day.

In early 2007, Indesit merged with Hotpoint, forming the joint division Hotpoint Ariston. That same year, the decision was made to create the Hotpoint-Ariston brand by combining the names of Hotpoint and Ariston. In 2015, the brand name was changed back to Hotpoint.

In October 2014, Whirlpool acquired a 60% stake in Indesit.
